Big Announcement, and something to ponder
Big Announcement
šItās Launch Day!š„ Iām so excited to publish the first article for my new newsletter: Sticks and Stones. Iāll be diving deep into military history and the impact of world-wide military spending on our lives. Itās quite a bit different than the content in Strong99 (!), but perhaps youāll enjoy my writing over there too. Subscribe today or forward to a friend: itās free, and Iāve love to hear your thoughts.
One thing to ponder
Reading
recent post on Body Performance there was one quote that struck home:General [body] Optimization is separate from how we look. It involves creating a body that can DO. ⦠My weight is a āsmall metricā with respect to my goals.
ā Gordo Byrn, Endurance Essentials
I realized how upside-down my thinking is on this. I have a tendency to worry (obsess?) about my bodyfat, to the point where I think diet is the only fix and Iām too heavy to exercise in the manner Iām used to. This isnāt long term thinking, and itās not ācreating a body that can DOā. I feel like this type of thinking sabotages other parts of my life, where I avoid doing something altogether because X or Y isnāt perfect.
The right answer - whether itās related to physical or mental performance long term - is provided by Byrn:
Be dedicated to the performance.
Trust your body to adapt from the work you do.
Free yourself from expectations.
ā Endurance Essentials
Strong99 is about adopting behaviors that will help us thrive later in life: surely we can seek out the places where we allow little things to block us and replace that with just doing the important work to reach our goals. Let me know in the comments if you have similar blocks.
Cheers,
Brad.
